McIntosh MCD600
The MCD600 is intended to cover more than conventional disc playback while remaining centered on a serious CD and SACD collection. Its internal DAC, digital inputs, USB-file playback, variable outputs, and headphone connection allow it to take on several roles without turning the system into a collection of separate digital boxes.
Its presentation is controlled, full, and well organized. The MCD600 keeps bass lines easy to follow, preserves tonal density through the midrange, and avoids pushing high-frequency detail forward. Music retains a coherent sense of pace, whether played from a disc or through one of the digital inputs.
Fixed outputs suit a conventional preamplifier or integrated amplifier, while variable balanced and unbalanced outputs can connect directly to a power amplifier in a simpler system. The digital inputs also make the MCD600 useful as the primary DAC for a streamer or other source. Careful gain matching is worthwhile when using it without a separate preamplifier.
This model fits the listener who wants flexibility but still prefers a physical-media component at the center of the system. It is easy to operate day to day, accommodates changing source needs, and can reduce component count without giving up the structure and usability of a full-size player.
