McIntosh MCD85
The MCD85 brings disc playback and digital conversion into McIntosh’s narrower chassis format. It is designed for systems where space, visual scale, or component matching matters, while still providing SACD and CD playback alongside a useful group of digital inputs. The result is a compact source component that can remain central as a system develops.
In use, the MCD85 is balanced and easy to listen through. It presents detail without separating it from tone or rhythm, and it keeps vocals and acoustic instruments properly grounded. Its buffered disc-reading process supports stable playback, while the internal conversion stage handles both discs and connected digital sources with a consistent character.
USB, coaxial, and optical inputs allow a computer, streamer, television, or other digital device to share the same DAC. Balanced and unbalanced fixed outputs make connection to a preamplifier or integrated amplifier straightforward. The MCD85 is especially well suited to systems built around McIntosh’s compact components, though it integrates normally with standard-width equipment.
This is for the listener who still uses discs regularly but does not want a single-purpose player. It offers enough connectivity for everyday digital sources, a manageable footprint, and an operating experience that remains simple once the system is configured.
